Description: Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton [1874 1922] was an Anglo-Irish Antarctic explorer who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic. Shackleton was one of the principal figures of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Shackleton first experience of the polar regions was on the Falcon Scott's expedition of 1901-1904. His next adventure was during the Nimrod expedition of 1907 - 1909 for which he was knighted. His next trip was to cross the Antarctica from sea to sea, vis the pole, this became the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914-1917. This was the most famous of his trips, their ship the Endurance became trapped in pack ice and was destroyed. The crew camped on ice until it disintegrated, then reach land by lifeboats, a voyage of 830 miles in stormy seas. In 1921, he returned to the Antarctic with the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition but died of a heart attack on January 5, 1922. Listed for auction is the exceedingly rare autograph of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton signed on a linen autograph card. The autograph is signed ''Ernest H. Shackleton'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.25 x 3.25 inches, it has trivial even toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The card was originally mounted to a page which contained vintage newspaper clipping, one of which is included. The autograph of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton is rare to obtain, this is a desirable authentic example, signed with his full name and is ideal for display.
