Description: I have 8 similar prints they are all framed with the same frame, but the frame is not great, generally the frames are intact, but in shabby condition. I think it is possible that these came from a collection of views of London once it was rebuilt after the great fire. Interestingly they all have a number printed on them in the corner, so maybe a book. I am not sure. I do not know the exact dates of these, whether they are originals or later copies, they certainly have age though. THIS ONE IS: The inscription below reads as follows: London formerly called Londonia a city of great traffic the chiefest in Great Britain the throne of the Kingdom is situated on the River Thames nd founded of Brutus Constantinus the Great compassed it with walls beautified it with 120 charges, St. Paul the Cathedrall and a stately exchange tower and other stately buildings by the last Great Fire almost consumed together with the most part of the city but non through the great wealth of the citizens built again. This is a panoramic view of London as seen from the south of the River extending from Whitehall to the Tower of London. It includes notable buildings recently rebuilt after the Great Fire of London, including a prominent St. Paul's Cathedral. The foreground is filled with incidental scenes from everyday life of the people of London. This view of London is part of Frederick de Wit's Townbook, which began to be published after 1694, it it he compiled views of famous European and Asian cities to be collected by armchair travellers across the continent. With a description and commentary on the city written underneath in German, Dutch, French and English. Points of interest are picked out and identified by a key. CONDITION: This one is in decent condition apart from a slight crease down in the left corner and a faint bit of staining in the upper left corner. Please see photos for measurements. Dispatched with Royal Mail, if you are overseas please contact me first to discuss postage prices and/or viability as there are some things I would prefer not to send abroad due to fragility.
