Description: You are bidding on a huge original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal. It depicts the Accident Ward at Guy's Hospital in London England. The occasion is visitors day. Families visit patients. Nurses care for patients. A policemen oversees a stretcher being brought in.The hospital was founded in 1721 by Thomas Guy, a publisher of unlicensed Bibles who had made a fortune in the South Sea Bubble. It was originally established as a hospital to treat "incurables" discharged from St Thomas' Hospital. Guy had been a Governor and benefactor of St Thomas' and his fellow Governors supported his intention by granting the south-side of St Thomas' Street for a peppercorn rent for 999 years. Guy is interred in the crypt of the Chapel of his foundation. It is very large (double folio size), measuring approximately 21.5 x 15.75 inches (54.5 x 40 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below. The back of this print has unrelated text/photos on the back.The print has a fold in the middle, where it was folded into the magazine long ago. Note that the fold line is clean but it has three small holes in it from where it was sewn into the binding many years ago.
