Author Biography Michael Maas is William Gaines Twyman Professor of History Emeritus at Rice University where he was Director of the Program in Ancient Mediterranean Civilizations. He is the author of The Conquerors Gift: Roman Ethnography and the End of Antiquity.Fay Yarbrough is William Gaines Twyman Professor of History and Associate Dean of Faculty and Graduate Programs in the School of Humanities at Rice University.
