Etched in Orlik's signature minimalist style, the group of figures appear to be in conversation. Signed in graphite below the plate lines. Well presented in a gilt frame and white card mount. On paper. Condition The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration.Biography Emil Orlik was born in Prague in 1870 where his father and brother were both master tailors. He studied at the prestigious art school Heinrich Knirr alongside fellow pupil Paul Klee. He then furthered his studies at the Munich Academy under Wilhelm Lindenschmit where he started to experiment with printing processes. He left the academy in 1893 to perform military service before returning to Prague. Two years later he relocated back to Munich before extensively travelling Europe. He studied printmaking intensely while travelling and incorporated many newly learnt styles into his work. Orlik is particularly renowned for his ever evolving style, that was often inspired by his travels and the influential artists he met along the way. Emily Orlik died of a heart attack in 1932, leaving his estate to his brother Hugo Orlik. However, almost the whole Orlik family lost their lives at the hands of the Nazi's in WW2, except for one aunt who inherited what was left of Emil's work. His work is still sold and exhibited internationally.
