Egyptian Painting and Sculpture original antique chromolithograph 1889

Description: DESCRIPTION: Antique / Vintage chromolithograph of Aegyptisch - Malerie und Plastik (Egyptian Painting and Sculpture) PAINTING AND SCULPTURE. The decoration style of the Egyptians, the oldest civilized people, includes symbolic and pictorial representations, mostly in conjunction with hieroglyphic writing. Columns and walls were used to write a pictorial chronicle of the cult and everyday life. The pictorial representations on the outer walls of their buildings consist of very flat, often painted reliefs, called koilanaglyphs. The contours are deeply engraved, the object is treated in a plastic manner, but in such a way that the highest points remain level with the wall surface. Plate 1 Fig. 1. The paintings themselves are executed in solid tones, without modeling, with strong contours and show a rich, harmonious combination of colors. From the plant and animal world, the most frequently used in Egyptian ornamentation were: the lotus flower, an attribute of Isis and the symbol of the creative force of nature, the nymphaea, the papyrus, the reed, the alme Petc. Also the ram, the sparrowhawk, Plate 2 Fig. I and 2, and especially the dung beetle - scarab - Plate 1 Fig. 2. Another frequently used symbol is the winged sun disk. Plate 2 Fig. 2. The capitals on plate 2 also show the use of the above plant motifs, namely Fig. 3 of the papyrus, Fig. 4 a bud capital, the shaft representing a bundle of logs, Fig. 5 palm leaves and Fig. 6 a papyrus bud. Taf. 2 Fig. 2.
