I commend it as a study of political trends in the early days of the Colony, as well as a literary and bibliographical "ghost" story. More important, it is a well deserved tribute to a great librarian of England. On behalf of the Trustees of the Public Library of New South Wales, I have to thank the Royal Australian Historical Society for permission to reprint, and the Manchester Public Libraries for permission to add the manuscript fascimiles from the Edwards papers, which they kindly supplied.
