Description: Easton Press leather edition of Ernest Hemingway's "The Torrents of Spring," a COLLECTOR'S edition, one of the COLLECTED STORIES OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY series, published in 1990. Bound in chocolate brown leather with a man embossed on the front board, the book has camel tan moire silk end leaves, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, a satin book marker, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in FINE condition. Ernest Hemingway, who lived from 1899-1961, was married four times; the second wife's family lived in PIGGOTT, ARKANSAS. He grew up in Oak Forrest, Illinois, the son of a medical doctor and a musical mother. As an adult, he was an ambulance drive in WW I and later lived in Paris, Kansas City, Key West, Florida, CUBA, Idaho, and Arkansas and he traveled all over the world. "Torrents" is a spoof of the world of writers, particularly Sherwood Anderson. Set in northern Michigan, two men, Yogi Johnson and writer Scripps O'Neill, work at a pump factory. Both men are searching for the perfect woman. O'Neill, who is desperate for companionship, befriends a British waitress, DIANA, at a restaurant and asks her to marry him but he soon leaves her. Then he meets MANDY. Yogi has a period in which he anguishes over the fact that he has no "desire" for a woman. Johnson is "cured" of his impotence when he views a naked woman---even if she is an indigenous woman working in a restaurant. He attributes this to "Mother Nature." 90 pages.
