Description: At the conclusion of military service, NVA (National People's Army) soldiers received commemorative items as reminders of their contributionsto the Fatherland. These Scarves and Doilies are a few examples, and each is brimming with Cold War history. Each Reservist Scarf is covered in images depicting NVA soldiers performing all sorts of duties during their enlistment. Also depicted are fighter planes (MiG-21), support vehicles, warships, tanks, and even a Scud missile launcher. Each Nationale Volksarmee Doily is manufactured from Plauen Lace: a machine-made industrial lace developed in the late 19th century. During World War II, the German city of Plauen was almost completely destroyed, and after the war fell under the Soviet sphere of influence. Eventually Plauen found a place in the Soviet planned economy, continuing to manufacture lace for military and government contracts. In 1989, Plauen became the site of one of the first mass demonstrations against the communist government, one of many that lead to German Reunification in 1990.Item is in new original package with solder carrying AK jumping over wall.1970's era East German manufactureGreat pairings for other military or German historical collectiblesKey Specifications:Scarf Material: PolyesterScarf Dimensions: 26" x 26"Doily Material: Cotton and Plauen LaceDoily Dimensions: 11.5" x 11.5"Country of Origin: East GermanyCondition: New, never issued, Sealed in original package
