Description: This tankard is stamped with the King George LCC28 (London County Council) verification mark. Since the LCC28 mark began use after 1891, this will be either George V or VI (1910 - 1952). No makers mark apparent to me, but I'm not expert in Pewter. Dimensions: Base diameter = 4-1/8", Top diameter = 3.25", Height = 4.75", Handle extends width by 1.5". The glass bottom was developed on tankards as a way to avoid the King's Shilling. In Britain starting the 18th and 19th centuries, military recruits were paid one schilling to serve in The British Army or The Royal Navy. To fool pub patrons, unscrupulous recruiters dropped the shilling in a tankard and bought a "free" beer for the unsuspecting recruit. The glass bottom allowed a savvy patron to see the shilling in the bottom so they could wisely refuse the drink. Condition: Excellent giftable condition. Surface nicks and scratches commiserate with age and use. Unpacked weight: 1 pound, 3 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping.
