We believe that it is better to show to the film lovers a hundred imperfect films now, than to make them wait for decades to see one perfectly restored film. "The Isle of Love" is a comedy-drama starring Julian Eltinge, Frederick Ko Vert, William Clifford, Leo White, Virginia Rappe, Rudolph Valentino and others. Several characters try to overthrow a corrupt monarch ruling an island. The original film made in 1918 had the title Over the Rhine and was an anti-German drama. The production was completed only after World War I had ended and its distribution was canceled. In 1920 the film was re-edited as a comedy-drama and titled An Adventuress. In 1922, after Valentino's rise to stardom, the film was released once again under the title The Isle of Love. This version was intended to capitalize on Valentino's popularity and also on the fallout from Rappe's sensational death. She was the actress supposedly murdered by Roscoe Arbuckle in 1921. By the standards of the average silent film "The Isle of Love" has acceptable to good quality and is perfectly watchable. The facial expressions can be seen clearly. There is no missing footage nor any nitrate damage; the plot can be followed easily from beginning until end. The film has done better than 70% that are lost forever. The movie is accompanied by quality music that greatly enhances the viewing experience. The DVD comes in a slim jewel case and has the cover art exactly as you see it on the photo. We value your five-star feedback and will do all we can to earn it. Please contact us if you are not completely satisfied so that we can correct any problem.
