Description: This is a DVD-ROM containing 3 volumes (6 books) of the "Aero Engineering" series, by Squadron Leader H. Nelson, George Newnes Ltd. publisher. Described as follows:"A COMPREHENSIVE WORK FOR THOSE ENGAGED IN THE PRODUCTION, ASSEMBLY, TESTING MAINTENANCE, AND OVERHAUL OF AIRCRAFT". It consists of a sequence of articles in a somewhat haphazard order with technical details about aircraft of the 1938-1939 era. It is very practical with numerous photos and drafted illustrations. It is almost exclusively about British aviation technology. There is a lot of information on the Pegasus engine, and some on the Wright engine. There are pages about instruments, brakes, landing gear, control surfaces, and much, much more. There are some chapters on parachutes, and others on lighter-than-air craft. Volume I: Principles and ConstructionVolume II: ProductionVolume III: Maintenance and OverhaulEach volume is 2 books, each a bit over 400 pages. All B&W - no color, but many half-tone images. It also contains 4 volumes of the "Aeronautics" series by Squadron Leader H. Nelson and Wing Commander G. W. Williamson, George Newnes Ltd. publisher, described as "A Complete Guide to Military and Civilian Flying". Volume I: Principles and PracticeVolume II: Instruments and AccessoriesVolume III: Navigation, Inspection, and TestsVolume IV: Routine and Special ApplicationsEach volume is a bit over 500 pages At the back of each volume was a packet containing information about selected British aerodromes (a.k.a. airports). Each volume has 8-9 charts. There is a schematic of the aerodrome and about half of them have aerial photos as well. What struck me about these facilities was that there were no runways - only open fields. It looks a bit like a soccer field, only irregular with some buildings at one end. Books were scanned at 400 lpi. Each page has been hand-edited. Special consideration has been given to the halftone images for clarity. There is a full-text index across all 10 books for searching. For instance, you can type in "gypsy" or "perseus" and locate every reference across all 10 volumes. Each book is one PDF file. The DVD-ROM contains ALL TEN BOOKS in PDF format.
