Description: In 2002, the USPS issued this 37-cent Duke Kahanamoku commemorative stamp in Honolulu, Hawaii. This stamp honors Duke Kahanamoku, Hawaiian swimmer and surfer, who is credited with popularizing the Polynesian sport of surfing by traveling throughout the world. He was named "Surfer of the Century" in 1999 (31 years after his death). He was a goodwill promoter and active spokesperson for the sport and for all of Hawaii. This stamp is displayed in a 3.75 by 4.75 inch wood frame. Please indicate what color you prefer: walnut, white, or black. If no color is chosen, walnut will be sent. A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. This stamp has been designated as Scott Number 3660.
