Rockabilly fans also know him through Dub Dickersons proto-rock hillbilly jump recordings like My Gal Gertie and for penning Dennis Herrold's Hip, Hip Baby and Make With The Lovin'. A versatile writer and performer, Dub Dickerson cut almost everything in his career: western songs, honky-tonk, hillbilly boogie, rock 'n' roll, country-pop. Bear Family has here collected all of the Dallas-based singer's early output, including his 1950 debut for Imperial, his 1951 Decca sides - both cut at Jim Beck's famed Dallas studio - through to his 1953-55 Nashville sessions for Capitol, and later recordings for Sims, Imperial (again), Todd and Tower - everything except Dub Dickersons final album for Sims in 1962. Included are such excellent sides as My Gal Gertie, Mama Laid The Law Down, Must've Drove My Mules Too Hard, Shotgun Wedding, several unissued recordings, and an excellent rocking demo from 1957, 'Boppin' In The Dark'.
