Description: Dragon Armor Panther G (Late Production) Model. No. 60012, Vintage - 2004, Scale - 1:72 Unit - 9 Pz Division - The Division was formed in 1942 around three regiments - the 33rd Panzer Regiment for tanks, supported by two regiments of panzer grenadiers (10th Panzer Grenadier Regiment and the 11th Panzer Regiment). Campaign - Western Front 1944/45 - The 9th Pz Div. fought in France and then in the Ardennes Offensive (with the 5th Pz. Div). The unit was involved in Normandy (7th Army) - Avignon and then in the Falaise Pocket and Aachen. It lost a good deal of its combat strength between Normandy and Aachen and was sent into Army Group B's reserve by September 1944 for rehabilitation. It received 50 Panther tanks for reinforcement of German units countering Operation Market Garden and was then returned to the Siegfried Line near Geilenkirchen and Aachen. It fought west of the Ruhr River with 28 Panthers and 14 Panzer IV tanks fighting the U.S. 2nd Armored Division in the Puffendorf-Immendorf sector. It continued to fight the U.S. First Army which continued its slow push from the west. In December 1944, the unit was assigned to XLVII Panzer Corps as part of the 5th Panzer Army, Army Group B in the Battle of the Bulge. It was part of the central attack against the U.S. Ninth Army and initially advanced quickly but was eventually pushed back into Germany as the tide turned after Christmas. In early 1945, the Division engaged in fighting around the Eifel Mountain range and the Erft River in February. It launched an attack on the Allied Remagen bridgehead over the Rhine but failed to reach the bridge. The final fighting came near Cologne in March as part of the LXXXI Corps against the U.S. 3rd Armored Division. The Division was hammered across the Rhine and then into the Ruhr Pocket before finally surrendering to American forces in April 1945. Some elements under Major Halle escaped to join the 11th Army in the Harz Mountains where the 9th Panzer Division was finally disbanded. The Panther was a very successful tank when utilized in long-range frontal combat but was much more vulnerable in close quarter fighting (such as typified the Ardennes/Bulge campaign). This is a nicely detailed model and popular despite its rarity. Markings - Dark green, dark brown and sand/tan camouflage with spots. No. 301 in white on rear of turret and extra track armor on side of turret. Cross on front hull and tow cables on each side. This model contains extra detailing in regard to weathering on individual track links and metallic wire cables. Condition - New with minor wear on box and case. Thank you for your interest.
