Description: Doulton & Slaters Patent Flowers & Fruit Basket in Medallion 4 Inch Vase Nice earthenware vase. Decorated with hand painted flowers and fruit in a basket inside gold and olive green gold scrollwork medallion over a cream background. With olive green laurel leaf swags and gold beaded flowers below gold, beige, and a bronze and brown band. Has a bronze gold neck with small gold flowers. Gold gilding along the rim and clouded / sponged gilding along the inner rim of the neck. Marked Doulton & Slaters Patent on the base. This was a process which involves the use of lace fabrics impressed into the surface of clay as a decorative technique. This mark was used between 1886 and 1914. The patent was granted in 1882 in England and 1885 in the US. Also marked with a crown over Doulton Burslem. This mark was used by Royal Doulton between 1886 to 1891. Has US Patent 314002 below. Has crazing typical of earthenware, some wear to the gilding and a bruise to the foot rim with a very small associated loss. Otherwise good condition. Measures approximately 2 1/4 inches wide x 4 inches tall. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
