Description: Description:This is a beautiful copy of Tasha Tudor’s scarce book, Dorcas Porkus. It was once part of a set called “Calico Books” (because of the yellow polka-dot covers), which also included Pumpkin Moonshine and Alexander the Gander. This is a small little book about the size of the Peter Rabbit books by Beatrix Potter, about 4 x 5 inches. It is covered with yellow polka dot cloth with a very slight “sheen” to it. There are about 45 unpaginated pages. Tasha Tudor has a gorgeous color illustration on each page, opposite the text. The endpapers are illustrated, as well as the title page. This is the original 1942 printing from Oxford University Press; it later made its way to the United States through later printings from Henry Z. Walck. The story is about two children who attempt to give their pig a bath just before their mother’s party - needless to say, chaos ensues. Truly charming story. The original paper dust jacket is lost, and there are very small blemishes as noted below, but overall, this copy is in near-mint condition, quite a rarity. Please look at the photographs carefully. The binding is solid with just a trace of wiggle. The boards are mostly clean with just a slight bit of soiling and several faint scratches. There is a slight bit of color loss on the blue letters of the front cover. On the back cover endpaper, is a small loss of paper “rough spot”, no doubt from the remains of a price sticker long ago. There is a slight bit of scuffing on the edges and corners.The pages are amazingly perfect. There are no creases, wrinkles, soiling or tears. There are no “old book” odors. The color in the illustrations is bright and clean. This is truly a beautiful copy with only the slightest signs of handling.
