Description: This auction is for a genuine DITTO® brand Model D-10 manually-operated spirit fluid, liquid, direct process duplicating machine, built by DITTO, INCORPORATED in Chicago, Illinois. The machine’s serial number is 44128. Although it is USED, it is in wonderful operating condition. The upper and lower moistening rollers and the impression roller, as well as their bearings, are in very good condition. There are no missing parts or trays, nothing is cracked or broken, and it is a fully-functioning duplicator. Moving parts have all been re-lubricated. The DITTO® D-10 was first developed in 1949 to meet the demands of the post-war generation for businesses, schools, colleges, and universities. However, this particular deluxe model is from the late 1950s. It includes features on the machine not usually found on the basic D-10 models, such as the three-digit automatic copy counter, a cylinder-mounted registration control used to raise or lower the copy position on the paper, a block-out slot with clamp, and adjustable receiving tray stacking side guides. This is a heavy-duty, all metal, extremely well-built, clean machine, finished in its original hammertone grey paint with red operating controls. There are some minor scratches in the paint on the rear side cover of the machine due to its age. It is almost impossible to make it jam or lock. If you can turn a crank clockwise, you can make good copies, and up to 120 of them per minute! The machine has stainless steel side frames; an aluminum alloy drum; and durable steel side covers. Both paper trays are also made of steel. It measures 10-inches high, 19-inches deep, 31-inches long (including operating crank and tray extensions), and weighs net* 44 pounds (*without fluid or paper). The finger-tip adjustable side guides on the feed tray hold approximately 150 sheets of 20-pound paper or comparable card stock, which may range in three-inches or nine-inches in width, and up to 14-inches in length. Odd-size or heavy stock can be manually fed by simply locking the automatic feeder unit in its upright position. In addition, feed table markings correlate with those on the master clamp. Master loading is quick and positive by moving the clamp lever with a simple forward motion to open, and back to close. It has a maximum duplicating area of 8½ inches by 13⅝ inches. With the Spirit Fluid Process, you can duplicate in one to five colors simultaneously − Purple, Red, Green, Blue, or Black – depending upon the color of the aniline dye-impregnated carbon sheet used in preparing the master. The duplicator is the device that brings the master, fluid, and blank paper together to produce a copy. Each sheet of paper is automatically fed into the machine, moistened with Spirit Fluid (Methanol Alcohol) that will dissolve a small portion of the dye image when pressed against the master by the impression roller, then ejected into the receiving tray. One copy is made for each clockwise revolution of the operating crank, and delivered face-up into the receiving tray. You can make copies on any ordinary paper; however, for optimal copy results, it is suggested to use smooth, hard-finished impression paper, such as a laser bond. A great tutorial about the fundamentals of the Spirit Duplicating Process and equipment operation can easily be found on-line. As with all DITTO® Direct Process Duplicators, there are separate controls for both the fluid and impression roller to achieve maximum, satisfactory, and economical run lengths of copies per master. The fluid system is operator-controlled, pump-regulated, thereby obtaining up to 30% more copies to every gallon of fluid. The fluid supply, a stainless-steel tank, holds approximately one quart, and its cap has a built-in fluid level indicator. Bright finished copies are automatically stacked face-up with the aid of the adjustable side guides and a receiving tray that easily accommodates various lengths and widths of impression paper. For compact storage, the receiving tray slides into the machine when not being used. There is a three-digit, re-settable copy counter to keep tally of the number of copies reproduced. This auction also includes a box of 8½ by 11 inches (letter size), purple, DITTO® brand Spirit Process Master Units with preparation directions; a 16-page spiral-bound copy of the detailed Operating and Maintenance Instructions for the basic DITTO® model D-10; one replacement felt Fluid Wick (four-sided); one pair of Paper Feed Wheels; one pair of Rubber Side Grippers; and a plastic Dust Cover. The duplicator will be carefully packed in a new double-walled cardboard container, with the Operating Crank, Paper Feed Table, and supplies packed separately to prevent shipping damage. Illustrated re-assembly and set-up directions are also included in the Operating Instruction Manual. Actual sample copies duplicated on this DITTO® D-10 will be included. Shipping will be via UPS Ground. Please note the shipping container will be large, heavy, and require assistance for safe movement and unpacking when delivered. This is another beautiful “retro” piece of equipment for a club, business, artists or hobbyists, any type of organization, home-schooling, a museum, or the office machine collector!!! Supplies are still available on the internet. There are no guarantees or warranties, either expressed or implied, in this transaction. All sales are final − no returns! Serious bidders only! Payment can be made through PayPal. Positive feedback is always appreciated. In addition, please inquire if you are looking for a particular manufacturer or model of either a stencil (Mimeograph) or another spirit fluid process duplicator.
