Description: Major Doar Ivri discovery: 15 mils stamp of plate #7651 on thin white paper, not transparent paper as listed, tying 14 July 1948 postmarked parcel card, sent from HOLON to soldier at army postal unit KABA 290 (GADNA pre-military youth battalions training base - hence no serviceman number after the addressee's name), for 800 gram weight parcel. In this period there were Gadna training camps in various places including Mahane Yona in north Tel Aviv, Raanana, Naan and Shfeya (near Zichron Yaakov) all in the region assigned to the Alexandroni brigade and serviced by APO 8 in Netanya: the parcel was sent directly to APO 8 without any intermediate transits, tied 2x by year-less 16 July army postal service postmark & signed received the same day. The stamp is on white thin paper with documented punctual granular pattern & covering a Hebrew word of the imprinted instruction, the paper is opaque and not transparent nor translucent as observed with this paper type; the paper exhibits almost no thickness, almost perfectly flat with the surface onto which it is affixed. The stamp is a Plate 1 printing as documented for this period (with slightly lighter shading all around the design, as opposed to Plate 2 printing which is darker all around) in a slightly pale-ish red as a result of the absorbancy of the paper type. Bale and other specialized books classify plate number 7651 as being part of a large batch of stamps produced on transparent paper as part of plate group #100 of August 1948 (#7264-14970): here we see this printing at least 2 weeks earlier on thin white paper. The only printings of the 15m stamp on thin white paper are presently believed to be #06301-06996 of plate group 98 of June 1948. To illustrate the whiteness of the paper an image comparing this stamp to a pair of stamps on the same paper in off-white color is shown in the display. A preliminary version of this cataloguer's groundbreaking research is published here; the final edition will be published in the forthcoming JerusalemStamps Bulletin #4.
