FORMAT Paperback LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description Inspector Ken Wharfe, the first royalty protection officer to publish a memoir, was a crucial figure in the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, for nearly seven years from 1987. In that time, he became a close friend and trusted confidant who shared her most private moments. His first-hand account takes issue with many of the so-called `facts about the Princess and provides an affectionate, if not always uncritical, insight into this complex, troubled, but ultimately fascinating woman. Here is the authentic voice of a man who played an important role during Dianas most trying times, and in her beloved sons formative years, and who shows himself to be an exceptionally perceptive observer of the events that unfolded around the Princess. After Inspector Wharfe resigned his position in 1993 (making headline news), Diana announced her withdrawal from public life and axed her Scotland Yard protection – a decision her former `top cop believes led ultimately to her death. This account presents the most intimate portrait of Diana to date, as well as a fitting tribute to one of the outstanding figures of our age. Notes A memoir from Inspector Ken Wharfe, a crucial figure in the life of Princess Diana for nearly 7 years from 1987. After he resigned his position in 1993, Diana announced her withdrawal from public life and axed her Scotland Yard protection, which Wharfe believes led ultimately to her death. Author Biography Inspector Ken Wharfe, MVO, was personal protection officer to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, in charge of round-the- clock security at home and abroad, from 1987 until 1993. He retired from the Metropolitan Police in 2002, after thirty-five years service, nearly half of it in royalty protection, and on his retirement, was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order, an honour in the Sovereigns personal gift. His memoir of his service with the late Princess, Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, co-written with Robert Jobson, was a bestseller on its first publication and again when it was reissued in a revised edition in 2016. He remains in demand both as a speaker and as a commentator on royal security.
