Description: Baileya multiradiata, Desert marigolds are a heat and sun loving plant native to the Sonoran and Mojave deserts from Northern Mexico so Southern Utah and Nevada. Extremely drought tolerant, needing less than 5 inches of water per year, it is one of the most drought tolerant wildflowers. Extremely hardy to wind and heat, they also tolerate poor, salty-sandy soil and resist deer. Blooms in Spring with cheery, 1 inch wide bright and vibrant yellow flowers that chase the sun all day.They will bloom later in zones where they are an annual but will bloom all growing season. In the hotter perennial zones they will bloom in the Spring and Fall normally during/after the monsoon season. These are an excellent choice for xeriscapes, pollinators gardens, cut flowers, or mass plantings. Growing up to 24" tall and 30" wide, they will provide mounds of golden flowers all season as long as they don't receive too much water. Plant along a sunny wall or in a crevice garden with agave, yucca, and cacti and watch them thrive in the reflective heat. Very disease resistant, just make sure not to give it too much water.
