Description: A-go-go: fashionable, modish, 'with it', trendy.The term aptly describes this multi-strand necklace by William DeLillo, in more than one way. The fancy red glass beads that are the focal point of DeLillo's necklace are also called go-go beads.The red go-go beads are complemented by gilt beads and gilt links with thin, hourglass silhouettes. This three-strand necklace is opera-length and looks fabulous for a night at, well, the opera (!). Or it can be looped twice for an even more luxurious look.Like most DeLillo creations, ours is probably a limited run piece. After making over-the-top runway jewelry for the most iconic fashion houses in the world, DeLillo and partner, Robert Clark (1960s head designer for the Miriam Haskell company) formed the DeLillo company, making jewelry mostly for a select, rich, clientele. DeLillo pieces are thus scarce, and any piece is as close to a custom one-of-a-kind as you can find.The necklace's most unusual feature are the go-go glass beads. These are oval shaped beads with open centers (like donuts, except they are oval). Ours are about 1 1/4" x 1/2", and a bright red (lipstick red) hue. They look hand-blown and hand-made and no two are exactly alike.In the opening of each go-go bead is suspended a round fluted golden bead. The red donut beads are spaced out along the necklace length, which hourglass-shaped gilt links making up the rest of the necklace's elements.The shortest of the strands (also the official length of the necklace) is 33 1/2" long. The longest strand is about 36" long. The drop between the shortest and longest strand is about 2". The necklace has a push-in clasp with a decorative bead and swirls at the top. It is marked Wm DeLillo in script within an oval cartouche at the base of the clasp.The necklace is in good condition. The red go-go beads are fabulous, and the fluted gilt beads are also in excellent shape. The bamboo links have pale goldtone, a sign of age, but this does not affect the beauty and uniqueness of necklace.
