Description: The item for sale is a piece of deep ocean manganese polymetallic nodule, collected from 5200 m depth of the famous Clarion-Clipperton Zone 1000 km SW of Hawai during one of the expedition of Glomar Explorer - deep-sea drillship platform built for a secret CIA mission to recover the sunken Soviet submarine K-129. Manganese nodule mining was mainly a cover story, but they actually did some experimental mining. One of the scientists involved in the project obtained some nodules for his personal collection and when he passed away, the collection entered market, but got sold out quickly and nowadays any material from it is hard to find. Despite the recent hype in media about soon to begin deep sea mining, there is no other way to legally obtain these nodules or anything associated with them as the International Seabed Authority currently only allows exploration and any kind of sales from the companies involved are strictly forbidden. And taking into account the growing environmental concerns, most likely the mining of these nodules will never happen and there will be no other chances to get this material in future. The size of the plastic holder in the picture is around 3x3 cm (not included, just for illustrative purposes)
