Description: dbx 400X Program Route Selector The 400X Program Route Selector lets you connect up to three sound processors or equalizers, one encoder/decoder (like a dbx 224X or 224X-DS), and three tape decks. The 400X routes the input signal through the sound processors. This allows you to process a signal from a tape deck before it is played. You can also insert a processed signal into a tape recording. The silkscreened image on the top of the unit explaining the connections used for each processor, encoder/decoder, and tape decks. The encoder/decoder path is used to encode a recording to tape basically compressing that signal. When the tape is played back, the signal is decoded or uncompressed. Some tape decks, like the Teac X-2000Rs have a built-in encoder/decoder. If your tape deck does not have an encoder/decoder, the dbx 224X is a perfect answer to the encoder/decoder circuit. The encoder/decoder can also be used to decode LPs which have previously been recorded with a dbx encoded signal. Contacts, connectors, and switches were professionally cleaned and lubricated. Aged internal components have been replaced. Any cold solder joints causing intermittent connections in these units have been reflowed to ensure a perfect working connection with each unit. The 400X is my favorite device to route music from any device to any device. These can be daisy-chained together to accommodate more tape decks. The 224X is a great companion to the 400X. Everything has been tested and the unit is in excellent working condition. The faceplate is beautiful. There were some of the typical scratches on the top edge of the faceplate. These have been touched up so the unit looks NEW! The silkscreened image is nice, but there are some marks from stacked units on top. The pictures show some glare of the silkscreened image.Note the 400X powers on immediately when plugged in. They work best if plugged into a switched outlet on your other audio components. We are including a printed PDF copy of the owner's manual from a 400XG. The 400XG is identical, except that it has a power button. Voltage is selectable for 120V or 220V. Units of this vintage do need TLC if they haven't been serviced. My price reflects the service work done to restore it to its original condition. Please email if you have any questions.
