Dashiell Hammett THE THIN MAN Knopf First Edition First Print 1934 “seep” typo

Description: Hammett, Dashiell - The Thin Man - Alfred A Knopf: New York, 1934 - First Edition / First Printing / First StateThe book that introduced Nick and Nora Charles to the world. “First Edition” stated on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. First state with “seep” for “sleep” on page 209 line 17. Book Condition: In good, readable condition. This book has a slight spine lean. Cover shows some staining. Some fraying and tears are present in the cloth at the spine's edges. Light foxing to edges and some damage to fore edge. There is a bookplate on the front paste-down, which also has some foxing. Binding is sound. Internally clean and bright. A rare addition to your library in any condition. Book Description: The Thin Man was the basis for the superb 1934 film adaptation and a litany of sequels which would follow from the 1930s through the 1940s. As with Hammett’s other novels, ‘The Thin Man’ is considered one of the all time greats in mystery/detective fiction, and in 20th century literature in general. This novel was dedicated to the author's wife, playwright Lillian Hellman. While The Maltese Falcon may now be Hammett’s best remembered title, The Thin Man was likely his most commercially successful. Of Note:Ex Libris bookplate shows this book belonged to the library of a "Zeboim C Patten." If my research is correct, this is Zeboim Charles Patten, who was the nephew of notable Civil War Captain, industrialist, and capitalist Zeboim Carrter Patten. Zeboim Carrter Patten was also the founder of Chattanooga Medicine Co., now called Chattem. Zeboim Charles Patten's daughter was a noted actress and performer on Broadway.
