This photo is of Dan Gurney sitting in his All American Racers built Eagle-Westlake Formula One #36 car. This is the car that Dan drove and won the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, one of Europe's and Formula 1's greatest races. It was Dan's and Carroll Shelby's team, All American Racers, Inc. that designed and built the car. This is a very famous car. The last photo is of Gurney driving this car in the Belgian Grand Prix. The photo is inscribed to Gene Sherman as follows:"To Gene ShermanThe World's Greatest Painter!with all the bestDan Gurney" Dan Gurney (1931 - 2018), was an American racing driver, race car constructor, and team owner who reached racing's highest levels starting in 1958. He is considered America's greatest race car driver. Gurney won races in the Formula One, Indy Car, NASCAR, Can-Am, and Trans-Am Series. Gurney is the first of three drivers to have won races in sports cars (1958), Formula One (1962), NASCAR (1963), and Indy cars (1967), the other two being Mario Andretti and Juan Pablo Montoya. In 1964, Gurney and Carrol Shelby formed All American Racers (AAR), an auto racing team and car constructer. Thier cars were named Eagles. They are the winningest American team and constructor ever. This photo comes with the original mail envelope that Dan Gurney mailed to Gene Sherman in May 1990 (the post mark is faded, it looks like May 10, 1990, to me). The envelope has Dan Gurney's All American Racers letterhead on the address label. Here are some highlights of Gurney's career:Formula One - 4 wins and 19 podiums from 1959 to 1970.CHAMP Car (Indy Car) - 7 wins and 16 podiums from 1962 to 1970.NASCAR - 5 wins and 10 top tens (In only 16 races entered).24 Hours of Le Mans - 2 wins (including 1967 in the #36 Eagle car show in this photo) from 1958 to 1967.This photo is inscribed to Gene Sherman. Sherman was a friend of Dan Gurney. In the photo inscription, Gurney calls Sherman "The World's Greatest Painter!"
