This example is heavily rubbed and shelf worn with some areas of loss to the leather a short split just beginning to lower spine area. The gilt on the page edges has held up rather well with no serious scuffing. Internally there is some soiling and scattered foxing but the binding is still square and tight and all pages are present and not loose. A most solid and attractive example of this work which is a milestone in illustrated English literature. 21 full plates and 47 vignettes all executed as wood engravings by the Dalziel Brothers. Included in Ray's list of 100 Outstanding Illustrated Books Published in England Between 1790 and 1914.
