Crinum Lily, Oh, This is Outrageous, large, blooming-size bulb, NEW, RARE

Description: DESCRIPTION: OH, THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS This is a dark red crinum that must have made quite an impression on the person that named it to say it was outrageous! Somewhat similar to the classic Ellen Bosanquet, this bulb has a lot going for it in rich color, reliability, hardiness, large flowers, and a strong scape that does not flop over. We are introducing this bulb for the first time in 2018. When it's mature we consider it to be a medium to large-sized crinum. The flowers open several at a time in sequence over a couple of days resulting in a very attractive bloom with great form. It will form new, offset bulbs on a regular basis once the bulb is mature, producing several new bulbs every year. After starting with two medium-sized bulbs in 2009, we now have about 30 bulbs, enough that we can start to share it. We have observed up to 20 flowers on 23" tall scapes, but that was about 7 years ago, and the bulbs are larger now, grow taller, and produce more blooms. The last time we moved the mother bulbs in 2015, they were 6" in diameter. We have recorded blooms from May-August. These do very well here in zone 9. We grow over 1000 different crinum, including about 350 of our own hybrids. BACKGROUND: OH, THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS We purchased our first two bulbs from different people in 2009. One bulb originated from the Nursery at Ty Ty Georgia, so we think it is one of many hybrids created by the owner, Patrick Malcolm, however the second bulb came via the now disbanded International Bulb Society and was donated to the society for resale by Dr. Thad Howard. We suspect his bulb originally came from Patrick Malcolm too. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: This does well here in northeast Florida, zone 9, and we think it might survive zone 6, certainly zone 7, because it must have some bulbispermum in its genes. This is a very hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils (but prefers rich soil). In zone 6, or below, we would recommend planting it in a pot and protecting it from freezing in the winter. You can just let the pot go dry and start watering again in the spring after it is placed outside again. Bulbs can survive nicely out of the ground for extended periods if allowed to dry. They prefer full sun, but partial shade is OK. They will also make excellent, container plants. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a large, blooming-size bulb at least 4 years old and about 2-3" in diameter which should bloom in 1 year. They don't like being disturbed, so it could take one year to "settle in." Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom. Jumbo bulb – has bloomed at least 2 years, close to the maximum size for that particular plant (6+ years old) Large bulb - should bloom this year or next (3+ years old, close to, or at blooming size) Medium bulb - should bloom in 1-2 years (at least 2 years old) Small bulb - should bloom 2-4 years (current year or 1-2 year old offset) Seedling bulb - started from seed (usually in its first year of growth unless otherwise stated) PHOTOS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These are pictures of our plants, so you know exactly what they look like and what you will receive.
