Description: DESCRIPTION: Carolina Beauty is a delightful, small plant with 6-8, white, flared, trumpet-shaped blooms on thin scapes up to 30". It grows with erect foliage with many new offsets growing tightly around the "mother" bulb which can grow to about 4" in diameter after about 10 years. Flowers are fragrant and have attractive, pink stamens, and make an excellent cut flower. It is one of the more compact of the over 1000 different crinum that we grow. BACKGROUND: We have not been able to find out any information on the origins of this bulb. It is most likely a cross of crinum bulbispermum as the seed parent with americanum or erubescens as the pollen parent. GROWING CONDITIONS: Carolina Beauty is a great re-bloomer with a long blooming season May-June and Oct-Nov. This is a very hardy and easy to grow bulb requiring no special care. It tolerates a wide range of soils and extended dry periods. It will tolerate freezing weather to at least zone 7, with mulch. Bulbs can survive nicely for very extended periods if allowed to dry. They do best if planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, but they will also make excellent, container plants. If you have an area one foot square or need something that will grow up through a ground cover, this would be a great choice. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a large, blooming-size bulb about 4 years old. It will be about 2" in diameter that should bloom within 1 year. Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom.
