Its design is based upon the original drawings by illustrator Fernando Zeledon, with embossed dots above the watermark areas to assist the sight-impaired. The obverse side features the map of Costa Rica in OVI, the Banco International building, and a portrait of former President Alfredo Gonzalez Flores. The reverse side features a mangrove swamp, flowers, crab, monkey, and caimans. The note is 139 x 67 mm in size and is equipped with a Motion windowed security thread and solid security thread to enhance its security features. Placing the note under a UV light would show a watermark image of Alfredo Gonzalez Flores.
