Cool Cat Ladies 1940s Zoot Suit Costume w/Pork Pie Hat Size S/M

Description: This listing is for a Cool Cat Ladies 1940s Zoot Suit Costume w/Pork Pie Hat Size S/M. I try to be as authentic as possible with my costumes, and strive for the unusual and obscure. I saw a documentary on the "Zoot Suit Riots" of the 1940s and became utterly fascinated with this style of fashion. I looked for a couple of years before I found an Italian made Zoot Suit that was close to my size as a woman. I had it tailored to fit me, and had the bottom of the pants pegged in order to make it flowy like the originals were. It is beautifully made. The jacket is fully lined and everything is in pristine condition including the Pork Pie hat. I only wore this costume, once, so it is in perfect condition with no flaws. The costume includes the jacket, pants, tie, and pocket scarf. I am throwing in the 100% silk shirt as part of the costume because the color is exactly the same as the yellow stripes. I purchased this at a vintage clothing store, and it already had a couple of tiny moth holes that I have shown you in the last picture. You do not see them when the shirt is buttoned, and I didn't think I would ever find a shirt that matched the stripes and tie/pocket scarf colors. Latino youths in California known as "pachucos"--often wore flashy zoot suits, pork pie hats, and dangling watch chains. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the U.S. entry into WWII, wool and other textiles were subject to strict rationing. The U.S. War Production Board regulated the production of civilian clothing containing silk, wool, and other essential fabrics. Despite these wartime restrictions, many bootleg tailors in Los Angeles, New York, and elsewhere continued to make the popular zoot suits, which used profligate amounts of fabric. Servicemen and many other people, however, saw the oversized suits a flagrant and unpatriotic wast of resources. This costume is not a pre-packaged, lame Chinese version of this type of this fashion style. If you examine the outfit, closely you will find details that show it was a tailor made outfit. I no longer have the long feather and chain, but these can be easily found on the internet to make this costume as close to authentic as possible. You can see how I wore it in the second to last photo. I also still have the black and white Doc Marten Brogues that I wore with it.
