Description: A very nice complex molding plane with a quirk ogee with bevel profile by J. Kellogg, Amherst, MA, 1839-1865. The maker's imprint is rated as RARE by "A Guide to the Makers of American Wooden Planes", 5th Ed., by Thomas Elliot. The body is in great condition having the normal small scratches and marks on a 150 year old wooden plane. The sole does have a small split on the left side but doesn't affect it's use. The wedge is in good condition with sharp edges. The iron is in good condition with minor surface rust; stamped Wm Ash & Co., 1 1/4" wide. The boxing is good, complete, with no cracks. The toe is stamped with the maker's logo, J. Kellogg, Amherst, and owners initials of SAH and Z.H.E. The heel is stamped with the owners initials and 1 1/8. 9 3/8" long, 1 3/4" wide, 3 3/8" tall.
