Description: Here is a pair of solid brass candlesticks made by Virginia Metalcrafters for the Colonial Williamsburg Restoration. The craftsmen at Virginia Metalcrafters made exact copies of items in Colonial Virginia, working closely with Colonial Williamsburg experts who found objects such as these at the restoration site. These candlesticks are made of two parts that screw to each other for travel and storage. Each pair of nozzles unscrews from its drip pan; then, both nozzles lay inside one pan while the mates screw together as lids to contain those parts. It was called a Brighton Bun, after a British pastry. 18th-century military officers would have originally used it to carry candlesticks in their saddlebags during campaigns. The candlesticks show patina from age.
