Description: COBI HMS Belfast #4821 HMS Belfast is a British Royal Navy light cruiser of World War II. She entered service on August 5, 1939. At the end of November of the same year, as a result of damage by a German mine, she was taken out of service for three years. From 1942, she provided cover for Arctic convoys. On December 26, 1943, together with the cruisers HMS Norfolk and HMS Sheffield, she repelled attacks by the German battleship Scharnhorst, which tried to break through to the Allied convoy. Stopping the Scharnhorst contributed to its subsequent entrapment and subsequent sinking. HMS Belfast also took part in the attack on the German battleship Tirpitz. It had been undergoing a major overhaul since June 1944. In August 1945, she sailed into Sydney Harbor, where she was found by the end of the Pacific War.
