Description: This is the revised edition of Coal Boats to Tidewater copyrighted in 1971. This revision includes theForeword by Carl Carmer. The book measures 10 3/8 inches by 7 3/8 inches by 1 inch and weighs 1pound 14.5 ounces. I have included a few newspaper articles from the time of Manville Wakefield's death(1975) with the book. This book tells the story of the conception and development of the Delaware and Hudson Canal in NewYork. Among the many details included are the operation of the canal -- how the locks worked, how thewater flowed, how the lines were managed on the towpath. Additionally, the services built up along thecanal are discussed. The book is concluded with the coming of the trains in the area and how this led tothe closure of the canal. I have had a number of these books on my bookshelf and have given a number of them to friends whoshowed some interest in the history of the canal. At this point of my life, I am downsizing and need to adjust to limited space. You can help me by adopting this book.
