This outstanding collection brings together highly creative works with clear inspiration from a range of artistic movements, most notably post-impressionism combined with the abstract expressionists that dominated 1950s America. Many of these striking artworks were created by Hanley whilst living in Bristol in the early 90s and 2000s.Biography Clifford Hanley was born in 1948. The eldest child of author Cliff Hanley and artist Anna Hanley, he studied drawing and painting at the famous Glasgow School of Art from 1966-72. On leaving art school, he worked on various projects, and was also involved in the music scene, playing lead guitar in a succession of bands. In 1979, he moved to London to promote his music career, side-lining art completely. But in 1984, following a brain aneurysm where he lost the use of his left hand, Hanley returned to painting, opening a small gallery. A short marriage saw him move to Bath, and then later to Bristol, where again he became very involved in local art festivals, as well as social campaigning and activism. Dubbed ‘the hardest working artist in Bristol’ by Venue Magazine, Clifford sadly passed away on 26th July 2021 after a number of complicated health problems. His legacy is a joyous and dazzling array of artwork, demonstrating his clear vision and aesthetic sensibilities through pieces that are suited perfectly for the modern home. Sulis Fine Art traces its origins back four generations. Benjamin Diamond opened a picture framing factory in Midtown Manhattan in the early 20th century. Originally known as Royal Art, the business worked closely with artists and museum institutions, developing a reputation for creating fine frames. Royal Art passed through the family and eventually evolved into Sulis, now run by Benjamin's grandson Bill, and his son Dan. Based in the South West of England, we source art from across the British Isles and ship worldwide. We handpick all our stock and we've grown into a ten-strong team of art historians, photographers, restorers, studio technicians and despatchers. We relocated to our Corsham studio in early 2020, leaving behind our small garden workshops in Bradford-on-Avon that had been our base for several successful years. Now located on the edge of the Cotswolds, our current home allows the team to work alongside our large catalogue of artworks, allowing us to provide you with fast global shipping and top-notch customer service. We are always striving to connect people with the art they love. Each week we add new artworks to our extensive catalogue, across all styles, subjects, colours and periods. At the heart of Sulis, we rescue and restore lost and forgotten works, giving you the opportunity to find unique pieces and discover art in a new and different way. View All Artworks View More -->
