Cleaned 3"x11" Antique Vintage Old Oval Beaded Bronze Swinging Door Push Plate

Description: Penn Antique Restoration 3"x11" Antique Cast Bronze Door Push Plate * Please note that the color of the plate varies on the lighting. We took the photos outside in the shade, on a sunny day. It's color may differ under fluorescent, LED, or incandescent light. Gorgeous, antique push plate made by, "Yale & Towne," of Stamford, CT sometime during the late 1800's. We removed it from a large door that we salvaged from an old, Victorian home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Although the plate is a pink, copper color, I'm pretty sure that it's just bronze with a high copper content rather than solid copper. Copper is a soft metal, and it's much stiffer and stronger when mixed with tin. The plate was cast (molten metal was poured into a mold) which means it's thick and heavy. Lesser quality plates were just stamped or pressed into shape from a thin sheet of metal. The plate has a lovely oval form with a beaded border. At the point of salvage, the plate was painted the same color of the door: pale yellow (see last photo). Since then, we removed the paint without the use of chemicals or harsh scrapers. Since the plate had a really dark patina (tarnish) under the paint, we wanted to remove some of it to show off the beautiful copper/bronze surface. We left some patina on it so that it still looks old. If you prefer a bright, shiny, newer look, this could be achieved with, "Brasso," and #0000 grade steel wool. Considering that the plate was probably touched thousands of times, it's in great shape. It has nicks and scratches but no breaks, cracks, gouges, or dents. It's also perfectly straight and will lay flush against your door.
