Description: Condition as seen. Out on Picket Near Falls Church, ViaSaturday, Nov 15, 1862 My Dear Brother, Received your and mother‘s letter and should have written yesterday, but we were very busy so I could not. We started this morning out on picket duty, 4 miles from our camp and stay out 48 hours, two days and nights. We shall go in Monday and shall not have to come out again for five days. Our whole regimen is here on this line which extends a number of miles. Our right take these miles. I am well, and was glad to hear that you and the rest were too. I suppose you begin to have some cold weather in NH now. We have some here, but the last week has been very warm as you often see it in June or July warm in Concord. We are in our winter quarters now near Fairfax Camp Casey. 20 boys sleeping in a tent. We have a stove and make our own sell very comfortable. I am glad you have enough butter and apples. Here they are seven and eight dollars a barrel or four and five cents apiece. Geary Mitchell, the boy that came out water for Captain Bradley is going home next week or the week after. Did you have a good time with Charlie F? I am glad of it. You heard from Henry Gale since he went home. But I must soon close for this time, but will write you a long letter soon. I am going down to Alexandria soon and then I shall find more to write about. Did you get my other letter I wrote to you. But I will close for now. Be a good boy and I will send you something sometime. Give my love to all. Tell Mrs. Sanderson that we will make old Virginia smoke if we can get a chance to.
