Description: Condition as seen. From a Student at Fort Edward Institute Fort Edward InstituteFort Edward, NYMch 26, 1865 Dear Mother, One week ago today at this time you were listening to your son preaching to you the word of Christ. Today we are separated by hills, mountains and rivers, far from each other, but I hope all incomplete health. I arrived here all safe on Wednesday evening. No accident happened to us and I feel no fears for I knew that warm hearts were praying for me, and others were wishing me a safe journey. I was very tired when I reached my destination, and found it very convenient to retire in good season. My rooms had been cleaned in the morning and, of course, we’re not very inviting except being clean. Thursday morning Mary came over and we had put down the carpet in my bedroom and fixed up the room. We did not fix the sitting room till yesterday, because the carpet was not made for it. I am all fixed up now and ready to begin the spring term. I am somewhat anxious to have it pass away, for I begin to wish to be out of school and at work for my masters. Frank Gorham is here this term. She is not very well. She has been unwell nearly all winter. She looks 10 years older than she did in the fall. Her school is not very full this term, nothing like so many as we had last term. Good numbers, however for the spring term. I am hoping to have an easier time of it during the term. I shall not have so many scholars to look after for which I am not at all. Sorry. 12 weeks from today I suppose I shall not be sitting here alone, but Reba and Addie will be here with me. Perhaps they will add a word to my letter to mother, for I shall write to you of their arrival so that you shall not worry about them. Augustus has just come in and says “Give them my best respects.” Our snow is not all gone yet, though it can be seen only on the hills. The roads are getting quite good. The river is very high yet, and is flowing furiously over the dam, making quite a roar in the air. It is a beautiful day, quite warm and looks like spring. The birds are beginning to sing their songs of welcome, and all things are looking very much as heart could wish. It is three years ago this term since I came here, how short it seems! Yet when I think of the studies which I have completed and the amount of work which I have performed. It seems that three years is too short a period for all that has been accomplished. If health is spared me, three years more will find me in another very important work. May God help me to perform it successfully! Our meetings are starting off very good, and we are hoping for great things here this term. Don’t fail to send me the Gazette every wekk! Tell Addie to hurry up and get through her hurry so that she can come up with Reba in about eleven weeks from the time you get this letter. Write soon and tell me all the news! May God bless you all with prosperity in both worlds. Remember me to all who inquire after the boy.Your own Son,Frank
