An Original Civil War letter from Private Henry Turpin with a large logo "Army off the Potomac, Seventh Indiana Volunteers. " writing home to "Dearest Ellie" - he has finally received her letter- they are on the move- had plenty of hard marching haven't had any fighting except on occasions, there is fighting all around us, we are now on the RR between Burlington & Rappahannock Station, guarding the Railroad and picket duty. Upon getting her letter he longs to see her again. I "remain your true and loving friend and hope you will feel the same for me". He signs it "Yours as ever Henry Turpin". A week after Turpin wrote this letter he took part in the Battle of New Hope Church (Mine Run) Virginia.Comes w service info. Henry Turpin was a schoolteacher prior to the War, enlisted in 1862, was wounded in action at the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864 and was mustered out as corporal in 1865.
