Description: Replacement gears for cigarette/lipstick (mosque) music boxes. I’ve been restoring/collecting music boxes for quite some time. A common issue with the cigarette carousel sometimes called a mosque is broken gears. This issue is most likely caused by trying to force open the doors of the unit when the music has stopped playing. The old gears just can’t take that abuse. Original replacement gears are extremely difficult if not impossible to source and most restorers have been cannibalizing other carousels for their gears. With the invention of 3D printing a door has opened to manufacture new, quality gears. The problem has always been the writing of the program to produce the gears; it's very expensive to have it done correctly. After a number of out-sourcing attempts I finally invested in the services of a professional engineering firm to create the program and produce gears to restore some of the carousels I have. I’m offering sets of gears to others in need in an attempt to get the price of the final product down. The gears offered are more robust and of better material than the originals. If you have a broken gear, you most likely would benefit from a full set of gears and I recommend that you change all of them at the same time to avoid multiple repairs; that’s why they are offered in a set of 6. This auction is of course only for 6 gears and not for any carousels.
