He was an American professional baseball player, coach and manager.Hiller attended the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) and was signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1957. He began his major league career in 1961 with the San Francisco Giants. On October 8, 1962, Hiller hit the National League's first grand slam in World Series history in Game 4 of the 1962 World Series against the New York Yankees, off left-handed relief pitcher Marshall Bridges.
