Description: Beautiful icon of Christ Pantocrator (“All Powerful,” “Ruler of All,” or “Sustainer of All”), also known as Christ the Teacher. Apparently, if the book in Christ’s left hand (i.e., the Gospels) is closed, the icon depicts Christ Pantocrator, but if the book is open, the icon depicts Christ the Teacher. It appears that the picture of Christ Pantocrator may be painted rather than printed on wood (under magnification, the picture appears to be painted, it looks like paint has been scraped away in several small areas, and there doesn’t appear to be any pixelation). Icon measures approximately 8 5/16” x 11 13/16”. The age of the icon is unknown. There appears to be manufacturer’s or seller’s information printed on the back, but it appears to be in Greek. The manufacturer is unknown, but the icon may have been made in Greece. Estate sale find. The icon appears to be in “good minus” to good condition with signs of wear, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, chips, indentations, stray marks, rub marks, spots, and loss of finish.
