Description: VERY NICE NEOLITHIC "DOG BONE" STONE PESTLE. This quality prehistoric artifact is 15.5" long, 2.5" wide at the ends, 1.5" thick in the barrel and weighs 4.5 lbs. It is in excellent condition for its age with wonderful surface weathering and a minor ancient ding at one end. It is a pestle, a stone age "kitchen tool" that was used for grinding and pounding food stuffs in everyday life thousands of years ago. Pestles of this type and condition are becoming very hard to find, and this is a nice one! It is from the western Sahara Desert of North Africa and dates to the Neolithic or Mesolithic Eras (New and Middle Stone Ages), some 3,500 to 8,000 years ago or more. This is a very nice piece and a great prehistoric collectible artifact. (I offer 1-day shipping as a matter of course, and often ship the same day payment is received. I figure once you've paid for something, you own it, and might as well have it as soon as possible.) Like all my artifacts, this is guaranteed authentic for life! Thousands of years ago North Africa was a temperate environment similar to our own Great Plains. Countless generations of Stone-Age Man lived, hunted, fought and died there, leaving behind their weapons and tools. Today, North Africa consists largely of the Sahara Desert, an inhospitable area almost the size of the United States. Constantly shifting sands and the ability to now safely travel off of established trade routes have expanded this fascinating field of study by making these artifacts available to scholars and collectors around the world.
