Description: Chinese Porcelain Vase Lamp Base Famille Rose Birds Flowers China Antique 11.75" Description and Item Information Up for sale is this Chinese porcelain vase or lamp base. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This vase is decorated in the famille rose style. It is beautifully and colorfully decorated with raised enamels and other hand painted decoration. The flowers have lovely shading. There are two birds, also. This piece stands approximately 11 3/4 inches tall. Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 8.6 ounces. The vase was previously used as a lamp base, so there is a hole drilled in the base; therefore, it will not hold water. This would be a nice addition to a collection of Asian decorative arts. Identification This vase was stamped "CHINA" mark beneath, as shown, but the hole was drilled through the mark. There also is a paper label beneath, which says, "The" and, "Trading Co. No. 306 Made in China." In between the words, "The" and, "Trading," there is another word that is illegible. The exact age of this antique piece is not known, but it is believed to be circa 1920s. Condition This item displays well overall, but it is not in perfect condition. It has minor wear. Some of the red line decoration is discontinuous, and I do not know if this is original or if it is finish wear. There are no cracks. As noted above and as shown, there is a drilled hole in the bottom, because this was previously used as a lamp; the hole is fairly neat and tidy on the underside, and if you look inside the vase, there is chipping around the hole. There is a small glaze chip to the shoulder, which has some white residue adjacent to it, as shown in Photo 8. As made, there are variations in glaze application, and there are tiny bubble pop indents, small dark spots, and some scattered raised areas. As shown in Photo 9, there is a thick drip of glaze beneath the rim. As made, there is a small firing fissure flaw inside the neck area.
