Description: A pair of antique carved bamboo vessels. I have seen them listed as brush pots and they might be but they are a little tall and come as a mirrored pair which make me believe they are mantle vases. They measure 13" tall x 4" wide/deep. They are skillfully carved with an outdoor pagoda scene. On top each has a couple of men playing chess or another board game with a bearded man in the pagoda. The lower scene appears to be a man in a boat possibly playing accordion. They are circa early 1900's. ONE VASE HAS WOOD WORM DAMAGE!! The vessel on the left hand side has many small holes from a wood worm. I have bagged this item up in a sealed clear plastic bag for a month and there appears to be no one living in it anymore. They make furniture repair waxes that you can purchase in any hardware store. If I kept these I would fill the holes with a wax stick in a close color match to the bamboo. This would be easy and make a big impact visually. The small holes would dissappear almost completely. I don't know if that's the right thing to do. So, I will leave that up to you. The other vase is in very good shape. Each has minor cracks but this is very common for bamboo of this age. I don't think they were ever meant to hold water. They would make lovely dry ikebana flower vases. Please see all the photos carefully and feel free to message me with any questions. Thank you.
