Brewingtons outstanding career in maritime history includes becoming the maritime curator of the Maryland Historical Society, assistant director and curator of Maritime History at the Peabody Museum of Salem, and trustee or overseer of several other maritime institutions, including the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. He was among the founders and editorial advisors of The American Neptune. In addition, M.V. Brewington wrote a number of articles and books, including Chesapeake Bay Log Canoes and Bugeyes.
