Description: The autograph may vary slightly from the image, but all are signed in blue rollerball / felt / Sharpie (not ballpoint) pen.Autograph HistoryThis autograph was hand-picked as the "best of the best" from the Jack Smalling collection by me, his son. His signed 3"x5" index card collection of nearly every player from 1871 to 2008 (about 14,000 different signatures) sold for $180k by Heritage Auctions, the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer. The same company sold a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle for $12.6M. Regarding his collection, Heritage Auctions noted "the quality of the autographs is spectacular throughout" and "it contains the absolute best of the best, with no fewer than 230 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame represented, several of the autographs so spectacularly rare that known examples number in the single digits." They also noted that, "He's the man who literally wrote the book on collecting autographs through the mail". The Baseball Autograph Collector's Handbook (a collection of baseball player's mailing addresses) is now in its 19th edition.Certificate of Authenticity (COA) My dad, Jack Smalling, has been selling baseball autographs since 1962 (62 years of business).
