The production is extra slick and the keyboards have become even more prominent which brings them very close to the sound and style of a band like Survivor, with the distinction that Charlie pushes the use of vocal harmonies further. But with the exception of a small number of rather average tracks ('Playing to Win' comes to mind) the song writing is so far from lazy that no matter the amount of pomp, no matter how commercial this sounds, it's still an outstanding album. Even a syrupy ballad like 'Spend my life with you' with its disgustingly cheesy lyrics, becomes irresistible because their aim is that focused. Of all Charlie albums none proves their prowess as writers of commercial Hard Rock songs more than this one (though 'Good Morning America' comes in a very close second). It's almost completely devoid of filler and is so competently done and focused that it's hard to understand why they remained stuck at the relative obscurity of cult level status. If slick 80's Rock isn't your thing you likely will not get why I elevate this to a high level status above many other American Rock radio releases of the era (Charlie were British though). It's just that this album feels like a sort of perfect storm that magically brought together the necessary parts for making good AOR in just the right amounts to be neither overblown nor bland. It's neither too complex nor too simple. It's just right. Like Goldilock's porridge. ~ Johan Wuyckens SHIPPING TO USA ONLY Buyer Pays Shipping $3.99 1st CD $3.99... each additional $1.50 CDs will only be combined with other CDs or DVDs To qualify for the combined discount, all items must be purchased together, paid for with 1 payment, and shipped all together in 1 shipment.
