Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, 1964 March 31. To William Targ, Senior Editor at G.P. Putnam's Sons informing him that if he writes his autobiography, he is "already committed to Doubleday & Company, Inc." The son of Dr. Charles H. Mayo, Charles W. Mayo was a skilled surgeon and member of the Board of Governors of the Mayo Clinic, Chairman of the Mayo Association and a member (Chairman, 1961-67) of the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota. Mayo: The Story of My Family and My Career, The Autobiography of Dr. Charles Mayo, was published by Doubleday & Company in 1968, the year of Mayo's death.
